What is Traction?

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical and drug-free alternative for people suffering from chronic back pain and/or leg pain. The goal of the therapy is to relieve pain and promote an optimal healing environment for bulging, degenerating, or herniated discs.

At Thrive, we offer Traction to...

Create Space and Reduce Compression

Gentle, machine-guided traction stretches the spine to relieve pressure on nerves, reduce disc compression, and support healthy spine alignment.

Support Healing of Disc-Related Conditions

This non-invasive therapy promotes recovery for herniated, bulging, or degenerating discs, and can relieve pain caused by sciatica, pinched nerves, stenosis, or facet joint dysfunction.

Promote Circulation
and Tissue Repair

By increasing blood flow to the spine and surrounding joints, traction supports disc hydration, improves nutrient delivery, and encourages long-term healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does traction hurt?

No, traction should feel gentle and comfortable. Some patients feel a mild stretching sensation or light muscle fatigue, but treatment should never be painful.

Who can get traction?

It’s safe for most people, but it may not be appropriate for those with spinal fractures, severe osteoporosis, or certain post-surgical conditions.    Dr. Katie will always assess your situation first.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends on your condition and goals. Some patients notice improvement within a few visits, while others benefit from consistent treatment. Dr. Katie will work with and guide you based on your goals.

Can traction replace surgery?

While it’s not a replacement for every surgical case, many patients use spinal decompression as a non-surgical way to manage disc-related pain and avoid more invasive procedures — or as part of their care while awaiting surgery.
