Meet our Certified Infant & Pediatric Massage Therapist,
Maggie!
Maggie McFarlane is a Certified Pediatric and Infant Massage Therapist focused on supporting children through every stage
of development, from infancy to adolescence. With a gentle, evidence-informed approach, Maggie creates personalized treatment plans that help little ones feel safe and supported.
What is Pediatric Massage?
We offer age-appropriate massage therapy for infants, children, and teenagers. Our therapist is specifically trained in working with pediatric patients and uses gentle, safe and effective techniques tailored to your child's needs. Every session is customized to meet the child’s physical, emotional, and developmental needs. For some, that means a traditional massage with oil on the table. For others, it’s providing toys, reading books, or demonstrating massage stories to support kids who don’t like to sit still — and that’s totally okay! We'll meet your kiddo where they're at.
The kids get to choose what their treatment looks like — from pressure and music to the level of undressing and the areas being worked on. Treatments always prioritize comfort, communication, and consent.
At Thrive, we offer family-centered care through all stages of life…
Prenatal Massage
At Thrive, massage treatments are preformed using side-lying positioning and pregnancy-specific techniques. Frequent check-ins and continuous adjustments based on symptoms and the stage of pregnancy ensure comfort throughout the session.
Infant Massage
Massage is one of the earliest ways we connect through touch. With Maggie’s guidance, infant massage can help relieve gas, teething pain, reflux, torticollis, and more, while also promoting bonding, sleep, and body awareness. Parents are always welcome to participate or learn simple techniques to try at home.
Pediatric Massage
Each child is unique, so every massage is too. Whether on the table, seated, or snuggled with a stuffed animal, Maggie lets your child lead. Techniques may include stories, songs, sensory play, or traditional massage, all tailored to their age, comfort, and communication needs.
We do ask that the parents stay in the room the whole treatment for younger children to ensure they feel completely comfortable.
What a Typical Infant & Pediatric Massage Treatment Looks Like
No two kids are the same — and that’s exactly how it should be.
Pediatric massage is flexible, fun, and always child-led. Maggie creates a safe, playful environment where your child gets to explore massage at their own pace. Whether they’re shy, energetic, curious, or cautious, every part of the session is adapted to help them feel supported and in control.
A Warm Welcome
Before heading into the room, your kiddo can pick out toys, books, colouring, or stuffies to bring along.
Once inside, Maggie will introduce herself and have a quick chat with you about your child’s needs, preferences, and goals. Your child is welcome to explore the room, play, or take their time settling in.
Parents are encouraged to stay in the room throughout the treatment, especially for younger children or first visits.

Frequently Asked Questions
What age should I start to bring my kiddo in?
We see newborns, babies, toddlers, school-aged kids, and teens. Every session is adapted to suit your kiddos age, comfort level, developmental stage, and personal needs.
What if my kiddo is shy, squirmy, or wants to move?
That’s totally okay! Pediatric massage doesn’t have to happen lying down or even on a table. Maggie is experienced with sensory challenges, neurodivergence, and kids who need a bit more time to warm up. The session is led by your kiddo, and can be adjusted based on their needs.
What should I bring?
You don’t have to bring anything, but a comfort item (like a stuffed animal or blanket), a snack, or a favourite book or toy can help your child feel more at ease. We have plenty of toys, stuffies to snuggle, books to read, and pages to colour, too!
Can I stay in the room for the massage?
Yes — in fact, we encourage it! Especially for younger kids, having a parent or caregiver nearby helps them feel comfortable and safe. You’re welcome to sit, participate, or simply observe.
Can massage help with anxiety or sensory needs?
Absolutely! Massage can be a gentle, supportive way to help regulate the nervous system, promote body awareness, and build trust through safe, consistent touch. It’s often helpful for children with anxiety, sensory processing challenges, or high stress, and can be adjusted based on their needs.
Is this covered by insurance?
As long as your plan includes coverage for Registered Massage Therapy (RMT), you can pay and submit, or we can direct bill if your plan allows for it. No referral is needed to book, but some insurance plans may request one for reimbursement, so it’s best to double-check with your provider.
