What is Cupping?
Cupping therapy is used to help release muscle and fascial tension, promote lymphatic drainage, reduce pain and joint discomfort, and improve overall range of motion. This therapeutic technique has been practiced for centuries, with roots in Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern traditions.
Often used alongside massage therapy, cupping involves placing specialized cups on the skin to create gentle suction. This suction helps increase blood flow to the area, supporting the body’s natural healing process.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does cupping feel like?
Cupping creates a pulling or tugging sensation. Most people find it relaxing, although areas with more tension may feel slight pressure or tightness.
What should I expect after cupping?
After treatment, it’s common to feel relaxed, lighter, or slightly sore in the areas that were treated — similar to post-massage discomfort. Staying hydrated and avoiding strenuous activity can help your body recover and maximize the benefits of treatment.
Can I work out after cupping?
It’s best to take it easy for the rest of the day after your session. Cupping brings blood to the surface and opens up tissue, so your body benefits most when given time to recover and reset.
Who is cupping good for?
Cupping is great for anyone dealing with muscle tightness, joint stiffness, athletic recovery, or stress. It's also gentle enough to be adapted for different body types and comfort levels.
Will I get bruising from cupping?
You might notice circular red or purple marks where the cups were placed. These marks are not actually bruises in the sense of tissue damage, but rather a response to the suction of the cups, which draws blood and fluid to the surface of the skin and usually fade within a few days.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to book an appointment. However, some insurance providers may require a doctor's referral in order to reimburse the cost, so we recommend checking with your plan first.
