5 ways to reduce your stress over the holidays
Here we are in the midst of the holiday season, a time for family, friends and cheer. However, as many of you know sometimes there’s something else that comes with the holidays… stress! We know there’s such a thing as too much family time and that’s why self-care is so important. Stress is a normal part of our lives - but it’s always good to keep it at a minimal. Here are some quick and easy ways to reduce the stress this holiday season:
1. Breath deeply
Deep breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress in our body. When you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain telling it to chill out! The brain then sends this message to your body, resulting in reduced stress and anxiety.
2. Get a massage
Not only does getting a massage relax your muscles but studies show it also helps to reduce stress and anxiety.
3. Take a nap
Napping has the amazing ability of lowering cortisol (your stress hormone). Curl up on the couch for a short little cat nap. It will be a restart to your day when you wake up.
4. Go for a walk
Walking outdoors for 20-30 minutes several times per week has been shown to improve energy levels. This low-impact activity helps alleviate stress and give your mind a boost. If you make it a brisk walk, it can boost your endorphins and helps you feel better.
5. Laugh it off
Laughter is so powerful - and studies show it has the ability to reduce the physical effects of stress (like fatigue).
